چکیده

Left ventricular function was assessed in 72 normal neonates (age 5-15 days, weight 6-10 lbs) using the echocardiographically determined mean velocity of circumferential fiber shorteninig (VCF). Comparison between mean VCF determined echocardiographically and angiocardiographically in nine infants with congenital heart disease yielded a correlation coefficient of +0.97 (P < 0.001). For the group of normal newborns, mean VCF averaged 1.51 + 0.04 (SE) circumferences/sec with a range of 0.92 to 2.2 circ/sec. Sub-group values were: <12 hrs (N = 13) 1.48 + 0.08 circ/sec; 12-24 hrs (N 16) 1.46 0.05 circ/sec; 24-48 hrs (N = 26) 1.44 0.06 circ/

Comparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method

Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...

Reference values of M-mode echocardiographic parameters and indices in conscious Labrador Retriever dogs

Breed-wise standard echocardiographic values in dogs have been reported as there is variation in body and chest conformation which limits the application of data of one breed for other breed. Labrador Retrievers being originated from hunting dogs, might have different echocardiographic values from standard normal range of other dog breeds. So, the present study was aimed to determine the M-mode...

Normal left ventricular systolic time intervals assessed by pulsed wave Doppler echocardiography in the Turkmen horse of Iran

The Turkmen horse is one of the oldest and purest breeds in the world. There is no information with regards to the normal echocardiographic parameters of this horse regarding to cardiac diseases. Pulsed-wave (PW) Doppler echocardiography was performed on 42 clinically normal 3- to 15-year-old racing Turkmen horses. There were 26 stallions and 16 mares. The left ventricular isovolumetric contrac...

Left ventricular mechanics in the normal newborn.

The transition from fetal to neonatal circulatory status is accompanied by marked alteration in relative right and left ventricular systolic and diastolic pressure. These alterations would be expected to influence both global and regional performance of the left ventricle. To address this issue, sequential two-dimensional echocardiographic studies were performed in normal newborns during the fi...

Normal Value of Left Ventricular End-Systolic Elastance in Infants and Children

Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance.  Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...
